No Experience Necessary
Question by Colorado.Raye: Would I like being a pharmacy technician?
I went to school to be a dental assistant. I finished school with a 4.0 easily, got into the field and hated the job. Well I didn’t hate all of it, but I really don’t want to work in the field. I like working in a field where i can interact with people and where I can help people, I just think I would prefer a job I could work somewhat more independently. I have thought of doing a pharmacy technician instead (maybe eventually chemotherapy assistant since I am obsessed with medical journals in particular ones on oncology). I live in Denver. I would like to go back to school. In the mean time I am just doing odd jobs. I am wondering, is pharmacy something I am likely to enjoy? Do you do a lot of independent work? What is the job like for you pharmacy techs and how do you like it? pros and cons? My uncle is a pharmacist. I could ask him but I am more interested from the perspective from a technician point of view. Also where do you guys work? hospitals? Pharmacies? Let me know which you work in when sharing your experiences… 🙂

a job is what you make of it.
All of them have their pros and cons. I knew a guy who worked as a pharmacy tech at a hospital and hated it. In hospitals you make your rounds and make deliveries to certain departments like the operating room (where i worked) and you take turns taking call. Which means they page you to come in at all hours of the day.
But from what I have heard, the pay is decent, and you could always do that to pay the bills while you finish college.
