From just looking at several job listings, the main thing employers are looking for is some type of “certification”. The type of “school” isn’t mentioned in any of the job ads I saw. Since you are already a medical biller, you may want to check into what criteria is needed for particular certifications. Your current employer could tell you which certifications are “preferred”. You may not need to go back to school, since some of the jobs I saw only required at minimum a high school diploma, certification and job experience. And some of the vocational programs combine medical coding and billing, so this may end up just being a “repeat” of what you already know.
I think that employers mostly look for certifications. I would recommend getting a certification after you complete a course. AHIMA does approve schools that meet their high standards so any AHIMA approved school should be very good. AHIMA has a list of schools on their website.
