Question by Me likes U: What jobs do i qualify for with a Bachelors degree in Sociology?
I graduated from the university of Chicago 2 years ago, since than I’ve been working at a walmart for 9 bucks an hour. I wanted to be around family but the town that I live in which is in(In GA) is so small and there are no jobs here. So I am moving to CHICAGO. What kind of jobs should I apply for?

I am sorry, but you will not have better luck in finding employment in Chicago with a sociology degree unless you have personal contacts who can really help you. Houston probably has the best job market in the country and you might actually find a higher level job in business there.

I suggest that you consider earning a master’s degree in social work or a law degree if you want to move into a professional field.

Best wishes.

  1. Sophia says:

Sociology is one of those fields where you really need a higher degree, at least a Master’s or PhD. You won’t find much in a decent salary range with just a Bachelor’s.

  2. MomSezNo says:

A degree in sociology is a “self-enrichment” degree, not a degree that leads to a career or job directly. It gives you an advantage over a job applicant without a degree – all else being equal – but is otherwise of no practical value.

However, depending on your other skills, you should be able to find a job as an administrative assistant or secretary, some type of low-level clerical-type job in an industry or business, etc. With additional courses, you may qualify to teach social studies in a private school or perhaps even a public school.

If you’re interested in social work, you’ll need to go to grad school for an MSW.
