Question by almostcompetant: should I move to upstate NY or stay in Los Angeles for the year?
I’ve just finished applying to medical school and need to pick where I spend the next year (possibly more). I have jobs lined up in both locations, though it takes about 4 times as long to get to the NY job. In Los Angeles I’ll have free rent (living with the parents), and in NY living will be free, but not for long. And here are some added factors: I’m living with a long term girlfriend, My entire social network is on the west coast, my mother is frequently verbally abusive.
I wouldn’t be asking the internet community of strangers if I wasn’t at a complete and total loss. So, thanks in advance

Which job will benefit you more in the future? Or which medical school is better? I think these should be your deciding factors. About your girlfriend, do you think you’re going to be together for a long time? Will she move with you? Will your relationship survive the distance, if not? Can’t you move out of your house if it’s unbearable with your mother? Is it possible to rent/buy a flat with your girlfriend? The social network thing doesn’t really matter since your real friends will stay your friends no matter where you are and it’s highly likely that you’ll make new friends wherever you go. Which area do you prefer? You need to put yourself first here, not your girlfriend, not your parents. What’s best for you?
