Question by Shedevil: What neighborhoods in Raleigh, NC should I stay away from?
My family and I are relocating to Raleigh, NC next year. I’m trying to research rentals but am afraid I may choose an “undesirable” neighborhood. We have a daughter so a neighborhood in a good school district would be optimal…any suggestions?

try to check out the schools and neighborhoods before you get there. even if you have to take a vacation trip before you move.

It’s really hard to say. NC cities tend to have bad areas scattered between good ones. Just from my home, I can walk two blocks in one direction and be surrounded by beautifully restored historic mansions that look taken from a movie…a few blocks in another direction and I see run down old duplexes. Fortunately in Raleigh crime from bad areas never really gets so bad that it spreads to the good ones.
I would look at the quality of the specific home…and those surrounding it. That’s really the best you can do. Look for convenience to your job location-wise, since traffic here can be a pain.
Chavis Heights
Not safe at night
In fact the Cat Bus route that covers that hood is the #13. (unlucky)
I would also avoid the poole road corridor inside the beltline.
Everywhere else in Raleigh seems pretty safe.
Heck if you want ultimate safety, live in the suburb Cary. Little to no crime there.
