To be honest, you will most likely have a hard time finding a job in a bank here. Charleston is not a big banking city like Charlotte, NC (where Wachovia and Bank of America are headquartered). Local banks are predominant in Charleston. Newcomers like to talk about the mentality of us old charlestonians and how we think we are superior to everyone else. That is not exactly true. You just have to understand that most of our families have been here since the founding of Charleston in 1670 and genealogy is very important to us. Someone who is from Charleston and has strong connections here is more likely to get a job than is someone who is an outsider.
Having said that, you should definitely apply for jobs in banks here and see what becomes of it. There are a few banks that have just recently come into the market (ie SunTrust and RBC Centura). Also, you might want to consider a job at a credit union. There are plenty of credit unions in the Charleston area. Your best bet is to go to www.charlestonsfinest.com and click on the link that shows all of the banks in the Charleston area. Go to each of their websites and apply for jobs. That is probably the best way to begin. Also, you might want to try an agency like Office Team as well. Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com are other options.
Good Luck with your move and your job search.
