Question by A Kind One: My husband is drawing unemployment in Illinois and he wants to attend a college in Tennessee for a Dental Lab?
Tech and Tennessee is the closest school around I think….If you know of any closer please let us know. Anyway can he reside in Tennessee and go to school and still draw Illinois unemployment benefits?

Your husband would proably have to disclose that he is moving and they will require him to apply in Tennessee, so the answer is yes, he will be cut off!

I moved out of state form Illinois to Indiana and I told them nothing and keep my benefits going to a friends home, I know it is not right but I have three kids to support and i have been unemployed a little over a year and I am a student. I don’t even tell them about my student status becasue it implies that you refused work based on your school schedule. (This i know becasue I got laid off some years back and tried to collect unemployment, they cut me because when I certifed they say I was not available to work when called upon). And they wonder why there is sooo much fraud!

With that said, do what you have to!

My university says a family of four cannot live in the family housing , there is one too many of us! If I were you, would move into family housing if it is available at the school or find one with housing so that I can be protected in this tough economic time. Did you think of that. Get housing with the school so it cuts your expenses on having to spend moneies on housing and food and get a meal plan unitl you guys can find jobs. Good Luck!

    Yes you can.
As long as you still meet the requirements, like looking for work and able to work.
Be sure you continue to file your weekly claim as you do now.
If there were a question to come up as to how you looked for work and moved then you make sure you tell them you moved on the weekend.
The unemployment does not care where you live as long as you are looking for work.
I have done this twice, when i get laid off from my job i have moved to another state and notified them of my new address after i moved and have not had any problem but you still draw your unemployment from the state where you had the initial claim.

They would rather you move to another state for possible employment than stay and not get a job.
