The average medical coding salary in MI ranges between $ 40,000 and $ 47,000 a year ($ 14-25/hour) in the beginning. Once you gain the right credentials and experience, this can go up to $ 50,000 or more.

For careers and jobs in the field, you will need to pass a national certification exam like CCS from AHIMA or CPC from AAPC which is the largest organization in the US for coding certification. You can sit for the CPC exam in Michigan, in any part of the State.

Here’s a Google document that explains the certification requirements & salary figures in MI:

Remember that this information applies to all the major cities, towns and neighborhoods in the state as well:
• Detroit
• Grand Rapids
• Warren
• Sterling Heights
• Lansing
• Flint
• Ann Arbor
• Livonia
• Dearborn
• Canton
• Westland
• Troy
• Farmington Hills
• Southfield
• Waterford

Finally, make sure you get a good study guide with practice tests for the Michigan medical coding certification exam. This will help you pass both the MI state and US exams.
