I want to start a medical coding career in either Knoxville or other parts of Tennessee that have jobs for coders and certified specialists. Hence, I’d like to know the relevant details (credentials, expected salary) to make that possible.

Medical coding salary in Knoxville, TN is between $ 29,000 and $ 38,000 a year (the average is $ 34,000), which works out to $ 10-18 per hour. This goes up with certification and experience. As far as qualifications are concerned, you will need a national certification like CPC from AAPC or CCS-P from AHIMA for jobs and a well-paying career in Knoxville. Both credentials are nationally recognized career qualifications for medical coders.
AAPC is the largest organization for medical coding training in the US, which makes the certification that much more valuable. To get certified in Knoxville and other parts Tennessee, you will need to pass the AAPC certification exam (called the CPC exam) with a score of at least 70%.
