Question by Jacob: Looking for best city or location around Los Angeles to get an apartment when I work there during the week!?
I have a new job opportunity in Los Angeles making big bucks (I know, need big bucks to afford to live there). Anyways, I am looking for the nicest areas to look for apartments to live in during the week. Obviously, closer to downtown the better!

If you’re working in downtown LA, there are some nice apartment buildings in the area, but there is no neighborhood feel, and downtown is not safe/nice overall. The nicer units are very expensive, some of the buildings look nice on the outside and in ads, but they’re kinda skeezy when you actually see them.

Areas to look 6 – 12 miles away, anything closer may be questionable:
Los Feliz (LA 90027)
Glendale
Toluca Lake
Studio City
Pasadena
South Pasadena
Sunset Strip, West Hollywood
Fairfax / Wilshire area, near The Grove & CBS
Beverly Hills
Culver City
Santa Monica is about 15 miles away, the freeway can be very slow.

Generally, driving from the Westside of LA is slower than from areas like Los Feliz, South Pasadena, etc.

Downtown LA has changed dramastically over the last year. It is becoming a more desriable place to live in. It will be near your job, no need to deal with the traffic, and entertainment will be near. Another location, is Echo Park, transforming too. Downey is not within the popular culture, but it has nice houses and apartments.
