Jane Oates gave the keynote address of a special event in Philadelphia hosted by the Job Opportunity Investment Network entitled “Celebrating Progress, Standing Up for Change.” The event took place in March of 2010. The event celebrated three innovative Greater Philadelphia partnerships that are increasing career advancement for low-skilled workers while meeting employers’ workforce needs: • The Connecting Literacy and Work program, which is strengthening the connections between adult literacy and workforce development. • The Job Opportunity Investment Network, which has raised more than million to invest in sector-based partnerships that address the crisis in workforce preparedness. • The Jobs to Careers project, which is helping frontline health care workers gain the skills and credential opportunities they need to advance their careers‚ while simultaneously helping employers retain a talented workforce. The luncheon was the centerpiece of the Philadelphia region’s celebration of Workforce Solutions Week (WSW). Coordinated by Jobs for the Future, WSW is a national week of awareness-raising and partnership building designed to honor local successes‚ expand the reach of local projects‚ and deepen the community relationships that are essential for future growth and stability.
