Usually you need four years pre-med, four years medical school, and three years of residency. Some medical schools like Albany Medical College of Union University are six years but they dont require any pre-med.
A biology major or some other science major helps alot but is not an absolute requirment. You have to really love memorization because medical school is really about survival.
Sometimes a perspective physician cant handle medical school and ops instead to be a Certified Physician’s Assistant. That takes six years or two years on top of pre-med.
A Certified PA could specialize in Pediatrics. They see patients and work under a physician’s supervision.
PA programs are easier to get into but they are also heavy on basic science.
