Question by BreeLove: How is the job market in Atlanta compared to Raleigh, NC?
My fiance and I are looking to move to the Atlanta area. She is in the Medical Field and I am in Law Enforcement/Security Field. We were looking at the possibility to move to Raleigh, NC, but it is such a small town so the job oportunity is probably not as great as Atlanta’s. Please provide your input. Thanks.

I agree with you that Atlanta has a larger job market than Raleigh, however, the economy just sucks right now…so getting a job anywhere is difficult.

I escaped from Atlanta and moved to Raleigh 20 years ago. The difference is competing with 500 people for a job in Atlanta or just 100 in Raleigh.

There is NOTHING small town about the Triangle area. We have plenty of traffic, plenty of long lines for tickets to anything, and plenty of suburban sprawl. Imagine the atmosphere of Atlanta in the mid 70’s and you have what the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area is like now.

I agree. In your fields of work you shouldn’t have a problem finding a job in either market but the difference in size of the cities will obviously lead to more opportunity in the Atlanta area.

Metro Atlanta has an explosive population currently over 5 million people (currently 5.6 million) on its way towards six million and ranks eighth in the country. Since the year 2000 Atlanta ranks as the number one fastest growing area in the country in terms of numerical increase. Atlanta ranks as the third largest city in the nation and has the fastest growing millionaire population in the United States.

There is much to like about Atlanta Georgia – the economic capital of the Southeast . Atlanta is proud to be home to 13 of the Fortune 500 companies not to mention that over Atlanta has the fourth highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the country. Atlanta is home to Coca-Cola, Home Depot, CNN, UPS, and AT&T mobility all of which are leaders in their field. Did you know that Atlanta is the cleanest city in the nation or that it has the 2nd most shopping per capita behind Chicago? For more information visit
