No Experience Necessary
Question by Dutch: How does one go about joining a circus?
I have plenty of skills but not in circus fashion, my skills involve more of medical care of the trauma variety, and survival skills, and reading people. Don’t ask why one with these skills would rather join the circus instead of what ever it is you think I should be doing. Even if I’m just shoveling elephant shit or something of equally miserable employment. I’m willing to learn but need a mentor of sorts, so shoot me some info homies.

Figure out what you would like to do in the circus and then start learning the skills necessary to get there. Acrobats are all good at gymnastics in one way or another even if not trained in the traditional way. A clown works on the skills of a clown: makeup, entertaining postures, interaction with the crowd, humour. Jugglers practice juggling. When you have the opportunity seek out a busker festival and ask the performers how they got started. Be prepared for some unconventional answers and maybe not the answers you had hoped to hear.
Have a look at the Cirque de Soleil website: http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/dralion/default.aspx
