No Experience Necessary
Question by letspullh: How do I go about getting my first job?
I’m an 18 year old girl. I’m a student at the University of California.
I’ve never worked before or volunteered or anything, but I want to get a job. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to the whole work thing, so any and all information will help.
I feel pretty determined to get a job by the end of May.
I should write a resume, right? Even though I haven’t worked. My mother said to write one “selling myself”. And basically every online application I’ve encountered asks for one.
Also, since I’m a UC student, can the college’s Career Center help me find a good job? Or is that kind of just no help/for graduate students?
Of course, since it’s my first job I’ll take anything I can, but I kind of want to work in a lingerie or sex shop. Will they need verification of my age?
And lastly, if I’m making minimum wage, will my income interfere with my college grants/loans?
(I’m working so I can have extra cash to do stuff. I don’t need the money to pay for school or pay rent or anything.)

It is true that if you are a first timer or a fresh graduate and never been had an experienced it is so difficult to have a job..I encounter this also just like you.. I take the initiative to have a job even it will pay me lower than the minimum wage… just to have an experienced. I finish my contract there for 5 months then after that those are helps me to find a job that is right for me and have the above minimum on my hand…so try to make a step for a better you.
