Question by Jacob LeCerf: Does Job Corps let you have internet?
I’ll be going to Job Corps on March 8th (can’t wait and a little nervous at the same time) but I wanna bring my laptop there and i was wondering if i bring my own modem and all can i hook into internet? or even wifi? I know that if I bring it i’ll risk it being stolen but i don’t have a cell phone and i need to keep in touch with my gf and family but I’ll be going to the job corps in Albany GA if that helps

Congratulations on your decision to take advantage of the Job Corps program.
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to connect to WiFi or connect your computer to the Job Corps network. Since Job Corps is a Federal Government network, only government issued computers can connect to the network there. If you attempt to connect to the network, your computer will be identified as a ‘hostile workstation’ and the port on the switch will be disabled preventing further attempts to connect.
The good news is that there are computers that are part of the network that are available for students to use, and you can use them to email friends and family. There are computers that are shared in the dorms, classrooms and computer labs that you can use after the training day.
So, it’s best to leave your laptop at home so you don’t have to worry about it being stolen and just use the computers that are available.
