Question by Mike: College grad health insurance – New York?
Hi, hopefully someone can help me out. I get booted from my parent’s health insurance in two weeks when I graduate. I have a part time job that offers no insurance and I plan on living home for at least another 6 months.
I keep reading that New York is a “guaranteed issue” I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing Any suggestions?

You have several options depending on your future plans. If you will be looking for a full time job with benefits you can get a short term medical policy which will tie you over until you get the job. The premium is very reasonable. If you plan on staying with your job that doesn’t have coverage you can get a permanent policy. Either way you should visit a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can explain your options and can find the best policy for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent.
